At a time when freelancing and company hopping have become the norm in the workplace, this Brazilian man made headlines for achieving a feat so rare nowadays. 100-year-old Walter Orthmann now holds the Guinness World Record for the longest time spent working at a single company. For 84 years, the centenarian has stuck by ReneauxView, a Brazilian textile firm with headquarters in Rio de Janeiro and the state of Santa Catarina. He’s worked there since he was 15 years old.
Orthmann began his career at ReneauxView as a shipping assistant, and was soon promoted to a sales position before advancing to a managerial role.
Asked about the secret to his career longevity, he has this to say : “You need to get busy with the present, not the past or the future. Here and now is what counts. So, let’s go to work!"
