"Learning is Not a Competition": Colorado School Will Stop Recognizing ValedictoriansA school district in Colorado has decided to stop recognizing and awarding valedictorians at their high schools starting 2026. This surprising decision, made by the Cherry Creek School District, was announced in a letter to families. According to them, the resolution was made because it found inconsistencies among its high schools in the number of valedictorians and the qualifications. “The practices of class rank and Valedictorian status are outdated and inconsistent with what we know and believe of our students. We believe all students can learn at high levels, and learning is not a competition,” the institution further explained. This announcement earned a mixed reception from parents. Some disagree, saying that it will not fix the problem. “It’s not going to fix the stress that we are seeing for other students, plus it’s taking away from those who want to work towards it,” Kristen Stone, a parent, said. On the other hand, some support this decision, saying that a class rank system can negatively affect a student’s choice of classes and adds to the growing pressure that high schoolers are experiencing.Image credit: MD Duran#classranking #valedictorians #Colorado #school #academics #honors #CherryCreekSchoolDistrict

We Don't Talk About COVID, No No No: Encanto's "We Don't Talk About Bruno" Parody Song by The Holderness FamilyKim and Penn Holderness of The Holderness Family parodied Disney's Encanto animation film's catchy "We Don't Talk About Bruno" tune into a song about COVID-19.In the parody song, titled "We Don't Talk About COVID," the Holderness couple put into words all the weirdness about the current Covid situation that we're all thinking about, but ... well, don't talk about. It's the white elephant in the room.If you're a parent of school age children, this part of the lyrics probably hit the nail on the head:If ya not super sick or you been on a shipAfter 5 days I guess you are fineThen our kids went to schoolAnd I guess that it's all coolHalf their friends are out sickBut they don't close the schoolLike they used to doThey just kind of don't talk about it ...#covid #school #TheHoldernessFamily #parody #Encanto
