Sri Lanka Cancels School Exams Because It Runs out of Paper

Nationwide shortage of papers has forced Sri Lankan schools to cancel their exams. Foreign debt crisis is to blame for this as the country is currently short on dollars to finance imports, therefore triggering the shortage.

The fates of millions of students in the Western Province now hang in the balance as there is still no end date in sight to the predicament.

Sri Lanka is currently facing the worst financial crisis since its 1948 independence. Not only paper and ink, The crisis brought on by a shortage of foreign exchange reserves to finance essential imports has seen the country run low on food, fuel and pharmaceuticals. The Sri Lankan government is seeking an IMF bailout to resolve its worsening debt crisis as well as requesting credit lines from neighboring countries such as India to buy daily necessities for its people.
