When This 11-Year-Old Student with Down Syndrome was Bullied, the President of the Country Walked Her to School

Embla Ademi is an 11-year-old elementary school student just like any North Macadonian children her age. However, Ademi’s a little more special because she was born with Down Syndrome. Too bad, some kids just can’t appreciate her specialness and end up bullying her.

Somehow, the president of the country heard about the situation and did the unthinkable. Upon learning of Embla’s plight, President Stevo Pendarovski saw a way to support the girl while promoting inclusivity in the country. He visited her and her family to learn about the challenges of their daily life and brainstorm ideas to better assist children with Down Syndrome. He then walked her to school and escorted her all the way to the building. He stated his wish that the public show of support would help Embla with the bullying issue while also shedding light on the importance of inclusion and equality in education as a basic principle.
