It was early September when a seven months pregnant woman named Kendra Rhoden boarded an American Airlines flight to the Dominican Republic. She still had six weeks left before her due date, but she did not expect her baby to arrive earlier than expected. During the flight, while Rhoden felt the baby kick as she was sleeping. Suddenly her water broke.
Fortunately, there were nurses on the flight who immediately came to her help. "Everything just happened so fast, it just happened so quick," Rhoden recounts.
As the plane landed in the Dominican Republic, Rhoden and her newborn were immediately rushed to the hospital. As per the advice of doctors, the new mother and child stayed in the country for a few weeks before returning to Connecticut.
To commemorate the event, Rhoden named her son Skylan. Skylan is listed as a U.S. citizen on his birth certificate, and written in his place of birth is "in the air."
