Anyone who ever texts will know that there are a ton of ways to express laughter. ‘LOL’ and ‘Haha’ are pretty much universal, but nearly every country has its own native textual laughter. In some parts of the world, ‘wkwk’ or ‘555’ are not just gibberish - they’re probably some of the most used words online.Many languages use onomatopoeias, translating with their own phonetic rules. A few notable ones: jajaja in Spanish, høhøhø in Norwegian or kkkkk in Korean, as the Korean letter keu (크) is used to express laughter. Other languages use numbers, like Thai that appropriates a bunch of fives (as the number 5 is pronounced ‘ha’). The longer the 5, the longer the laughter. Unusual Laughs Spark a Chain ReactionIt's not nice to make fun of someone who has an unusual laugh, but there's a point when you can't help but laugh along when you hear it. And if you have an unusual laugh yourself, that doesn't make you immune to this natural reaction. A few years ago, a French TV show recruited a bunch of people with unusual laughs to appear all together. These are people who are fully aware of how they sound and aren't ashamed of it. But they all sound different from each other. As soon as someone says something funny, one laughs and then they all laugh at the sound, until the entire studio sounds like a zoo uprising.
