"Think About The Donuts of Your Day": a 5-Year-Old's Daily AffirmationsSometimes we need to convince ourselves to rise from the comfort of our beds and push through the day’s tasks. For Gwenyth Todebush, she started using affirmations in the mornings to encourage her five-year-old son to go off to kindergarten. According to her, she’d say the things that he is looking forward to so he could think positively. “Or I'd say after school we can watch TV and have potato chips. And sometimes that's all you need is just TV and potato chips," Todebush explained. Her son, Clark, inspired by his mother’s actions, also decided to form his own affirmations. Todebush first heard her son’s own affirmations when she told him she was nervous about a parent-teacher conference. One of them was “think about the donuts of your day.” While this seems nonsensical, she explained what her child meant: "he loves the Burl Ives song, 'The Donut Song' and he found this little record in a dollar record section of our little record shop a few years ago. The song says watch the donut, not the hole. So you think about what you have, not about what you lack. And so for  It was a perfect time and I wrote my first book. And so for him think about the donuts of your day is something he says a lot."Todebush shares her child’s affirmations to the Internet, hoping to spread positivity to people just as it has brought joy to hers. "I couldn't resist, I loved the words so much. A glorious mix of wisdom and surrealism. I hope you don't mind and many thanks for sharing," wrote one follower, who made fan art from the quotes.Image credit: Gwenyth Todebush#affirmations #CNN #child #wisdom
