“A gull flew off with an entire steak, just as the waiter lifted the lid off the plate he was serving it on,” said Enrico Mazzocoo, manager of the Monaco and Grand Canal hotel. He is just one of those people in Venice, Italy that is annoyed by violent seagulls.
The large birds have also been known to have snatched ice creams, croissants, and sandwiches out of tourists’ hands and smashed glasses and plates. They can really get aggressive at times.
The Venice Hoteliers’ Association (AVA) decided that deterring these birds requires the use of a gun — a water gun.
Paolo Lorenzini, director of the Gritti Hotel said that “you don’t even need to use them, you just need to keep them on the table.”
The next time you find yourself sitting outside the Monaco and Grand or the Gritti Hotel, don’t be surprised if a bright orange water pistol is handed to you. You’ll need to protect your meal from those angry, angry birds.
