This chart of an origin unknown to me arranges some of the Emperors of Rome from Augustus to Severus Alexander. From my limited reading of Roman history, I agree with these placements.
Trajan, the greatest of emperors, provides excellent leadership by being both a supreme jock and prep. The underwhelming and self-absorbed perverts Nero, Caligula, and Elagabalus belong opposite of him. Marcus Aurelius was a true intellectual, but his armies would have benefited had he spent more time in the squat rack. Opposite him is Domitian, a brutally efficient ruler who left no meditations for modern young men to read, but did leave an empire stronger than he found it.
