Jeff Seal, a comedian and video producer, offers this salute to athletic heroes who usually don’t get the same public respect as professional sports team members or Olympians. To film them, he went to the sidelines of the New York City Marathon. There, he found physical champions who were attempting the great feat of crossing the road while it was thick with those annoying runners getting in their way.
There are many strategies that would work. The most obvious is to begin running alongside the marathoners while gradually making one’s way across. But that takes quite a while and won’t produce a first-place finish.
To those who are able to cross, Seal awards medals that will no doubt take places of honor in their homes. They will forever be champions of a great sport that, let us hope, one day receives the accolades it deserves.
