No Tip for You

Cartoonist Tommy Siegel writes, “This feels imminent.” Indeed. Siegel cartoons are glimpses into the near and terrifying future. Tip prompts on ATMs aren’t just imminent, but also inevitable.

The last place where I was asked to tip was at a stand-up boba tea bar. I expect that I will soon see this prompt at even more outrageously non-tippable businesses, such as car parts stores, gasoline pumps, and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

I could get upset, but it would be more fruitful for me to exploit this trend. Perhaps I could walk around with an iPad hanging from my neck, prompting people to tip me.
