A photographer was outside when he spotted a bald eagle swooping down as if to hunt her next prey. Readying his camera, Doug Gemmell decided to take a snapshot of the picture-perfect opportunity in front of him.
The avian was young, but her hunting prowess was still on full display and etched into Gemmell’s photographs. Overall, the images were majestic, yes, but upon closer inspection, something else is… different, to say the least.
What the young eagle got in her talons was something that the photographer did not expect. Bald eagles usually eat fish, but this one certainly wasn’t able to nab one from a parking lot. Instead, the animal flew off with what looked like a slice of pepperoni pizza.
Gemmell wasn’t sure at first if it was really pizza, but after reviewing the photos, he managed to confirm. “I did not know what the eagle picked up until I went back home,” Gemmell told The Dodo. “When I cropped in on some of the photos, I could see it was a half-eaten slice of pepperoni pizza.”
