The Iowa Capital Dispatch reports that several hundred criminal cases in the Polk County court system list the Easter Bunny as the prosecutor.
This change was noticed at the beginning of April. Was it an April Fools Day prank? No. It was a change made by IT personnel who used the name “Easter Bunny” as a placeholder as these cases were transferred from one prosecutor to another. The IT personnel reasoned that no one would actually have the name Easter Bunny, so it would be easy to locate and relabel these cases later.
This part of the file was supposed to be invisible to the public. But it wasn’t and people noticed.
The Polk County courts have used similar fictitious names in the past for training exercises, including a case which shows Santa Claus with a felony burglary conviction, Santa prohibited from having contact with Mickey Mouse, and Mickey Mouse filing a civil suit against Donald Duck.
