I can vouch for the fact that cats have incredible hearing. I have four cats, and they can be across the yard and hear me approaching the front door from the inside. The sound that a box of Temptations Treats makes when pulled from the cabinet is subtle, but so distinctive that they will all run into the kitchen immediately, except for Marshmallow, who is deaf and misses out if she's not looking at me. But sometimes cats hear things they really shouldn't.
