Oh, they fumbled the ball so hard. Fortunately for them, no one noticed until other people began reporting about the incident. The British Academy for Film and Television Awards were airing their 2023 awards when presenters handed one of their awards to the wrong recipient.
This mistake was covered by a delay in the live television broadcast, as editors could remove that bit. What happened was this: Carey Mulligan (She Said) was initially handed the Best Supporting Actress award instead of Kerry Condon (Banshees of Inisherin). The edit has been remarked as sloppy and awkward. It’s already too obvious if you were watching intently during the ceremony.
We hope that future iterations of the BAFTAs won’t make the same mistake! Imagine the disappointment and awkwardness in the air when the mistake was made.
