In July of 2021, the students at Wy’East Middle School in Vancouver released a boat in Garibaldi for a school science project. They lost contact with the boat in September.
Now, after nearly 6 months lost at sea, this boat has finally found its way back home. The school’s science teacher Joe Boken recently got a call from an amateur fisherman that the boat had been found in Maui water.
The boat is currently with a principal of a middle school in Maui.
Once it's repaired, students from both schools will make a joint plan to decide where the boat should head next.
